Bansko

Located at the foot of the majestic Pirin Mountains in the southwestern part of the country, the town of Bansko is a magnet for many winter tourists. It is about 150 kilometers away from both Plovdiv and the capital city Sofia, and falls within the Blagoevgrad Province. The Glazne River flows through the center of Bansko, and along both its banks, a city park has been created for relaxation and leisure for both locals and visitors. The town’s population is approximately 8,200 people.

During the winter months, Bansko is one of the most frequently visited destinations in the region, thanks to the excellent conditions it offers for skiing and snowboarding. Snow typically covers the resort from December through April. If you’re wondering when the ski season starts, it usually coincides with the first consistent snowfall. There are several ski lifts, and it’s common to find hotels located near the lift stations. The ski slopes stretch a total of 75 kilometers and are exceptionally well-maintained, offering a variety of difficulty levels suitable for both beginners and seasoned professionals.

Whether you’re looking for a five-star hotel or a cozy family-run guesthouse near the lifts, Bansko has a place to stay for every preference and budget. The resort is well-known as a popular destination for family winter vacations. One reason is the presence of ten ski tows specifically designed for children, giving young ones the chance to enjoy skiing freely in areas designated just for them.

If you have kids, you’ll likely choose a small hotel close to the ski lift—not only for the convenience of being near the gondola or chairlifts, but also because such accommodations often offer a peaceful, family-friendly environment. There’s also a high chance that your children will make new friends to play with on the snowy slopes if you opt for one of the many family hotels in Bansko.
